Child and Family Guidance Center
About
Under foster Grandparent Mentoring Program, low income senior citizens serve as mentors, tutors, and caregivers for special needs children in a variety of settings, including schools, day care centers, and hospitals. Mentoring program is for seniors who enjoy helping children ages 5 through 10 with school work. Foster Grandparents are paid a tax-free stipend and are provided transportation, meals, and an annual physical exam. Foster Grandparents work 20 hours per week and are expected to make a one-year commitment. The stipend does not affect eligibility for other income-based benefit programs such as energy assistance, Social Security, Title 19, or Food Stamps.
